WRITING TASK 2 TOPICS FOR IELTS EXAM WITH SAMPLE ANSWER

Write about the following topic:

1.These days we see that a majority of the people are shifting from cities to villages. What are the causes and effects of the practice?

SAMPLE ANSWER

Gone are these days when people from the countryside had an attraction for the city life.Life in most of the villages was hellish. But,people today are exclaiming that life in the cities in confined are suffocating.People are in sick hurry. They have to work as slaves from dawn to desk. They are merely soulless machines.Peace of mind is a distant dream for the people in the cities.Karachi, the biggest city of the Pakistan,London, the capital of England,Beijing, the capital of China and metro cites in India like Ludhiana and Delhi are among the most congested and the dirtiest cites of the world.

Social life in the cities is not up to the mark. There are yawning gaps in the social economic structure.A modern city is a curious mixture of contraries. On the one hand there are sky scrapers,on the other hand there are the slum-dwellers who live in dirty hovels. On one hand there are aristocrats who roll in wealth whereas on the other hand there are the poor people who roll in dust for a loaf of bread.

Globalization has changed the very face of the world whether it is urban or rural.there is hardly any facility of life which is not available in the villages.People are aware of the dangerous diseases which are gifts of the modern city life.In the rural side there is fresh air and closely-knitted social fabric.Latest means of transportation and entertainment have added to the charm of rural life. Now a person who works in a city office can easily reach his residence in a village in a few minutes.He/she can avail himself/herself of all the benefits of both the styles of living.

Lastly, this shift from urban to rural is the need of the hour.It shall be in the benefit of all and sundry.

2.Corporal punishment in any form should be banned. Some people believe that such punishment is necessary to maintain law and order in the society.Which point of view do you support and why?

SAMPLE ANSWER:

Laws are indispensable in providing a healthy environment in the society.Laws are reformative in their objective.Police perform the
duty of enforcing law and order.Fear of punishment has a great impact in preventing many people from committing crimes. The cops face the tough task of tackling the criminals and making the society a good place to live in.In order to do all this, they some times, get rash and resort to corporal punishment.

I strongly support the idea that corporal punishment in any form and at any place should be banned.Corporal punishment can take the form of physical punishment by a teacher to a student, police to the people, husband to the wife, master to the servant etc.The police arrest the people on the suspicion that the person has committed some crime. The suspect although innocent,is tortured so much that he/she so much that he/she becomes a hardened criminal.A student beaten again and again by the teacher becomes stubborn. In this way corporal punishment becomes self-defeatist-it beats its own motive.

It is often that victim of corporal punishment becomes abnormal or deformed physically and mentally. In some cases the victims are beaten up so mercilessly that the punishment leaves scars/imprints on their minds. The scars on the body fade away with the passes of time but not those of the mind.

Corporal punishment is no longer justified in any part of the globe. It is a replica of barbarism or savage culture. It means believing in the policy of 'tit for tat' or 'tooth for tooth' and 'nail for nail'.In the present democratic setup, such policies have no place,no value.Law aims at reforming the breakers of law,not at turning  offenders in to hardened criminals.

Exceptions are always there. There may be some exceptions of some hardcore criminals whose presence is a great threat to the survival of the society. In order to teach them a lesson corporal punishment maybe required.
